Selous Safari

Day 1: Dar es Salaam – Lake Manze Tented Camp, Selous Game Reserve

Welcome to Dar es Salaam! From the international terminal, you will take a transfer to the domestic terminal to catch your flight to the Selous Game Reserve. The scheduled flight departs Dar es Salaam at 10h45 and lands in Selous at approximately 11h30 (a 45-minute flight) – there might be some stops in between – you will only get off at Siwandu airstrip. Here you will be met by our driver guide and taken back on a short safari to the camp in time for lunch.

Selous Safari - 1

Selous is Africa’s largest game reserve, the size of Switzerland and one of the last great wilderness areas on the continent and is one of the largest fauna reserves in the world. The reserve is named after the legendary Sir Frederick Selous, a big game hunter and avid conservationist. Historically, the area is well known for the many skirmishes between the German and British forces during the First World War. Due to its amazing wildlife diversity and the fact that it has vast areas of undisturbed wilderness, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982. You will spend seven unforgettable nights here as well as taking full advantage of viewing the abundant wildlife, either by boat, vehicle or on foot.  After lunch and a rest, there will be the opportunity to choose your first activity and begin to explore the reserve, returning in time for sunset and dinner.

Days 2 – 7:  Lake Manze Tented Camp, Selous Game Reserve

An early morning tea or coffee will be served in your luxury tent before heading out. We will set our own timetable here, leaving camp early to catch the golden hour and spending as much or as little time as required at each animal sighting.

Selous Safari - 2

Elephants, lions, cheetahs, leopards, the endangered African wild dog, Cape buffaloes, are among an endless list of “Big Game”, that you will see on your game drives. There will be the option of doing boat cruises too, which allows you the opportunity of getting very close to the large pods of hippos and the many crocodiles seen along the shorelines of both the fresh water and saline lakes. The saline lakes boast some of the highest densities of Fish eagles and Ospreys seen anywhere else in Africa. All meals and overnight will be at Lake Manze Tented Camp (Full Board).
